Candle Care 101: How to Care For Your Coconut Wax Candles

We love coconut wax candles for a lot of reasons. They're a cleaner, longer, and more even burn compared to traditional soy candles. Coconut wax also has a beautiful scent throw that fills the room up nicely without being overwhelming. With some simple care, you can maximize the lifespan of your candles and enjoy them for hours and hours.

"Tunneling" happens when the candle burns straight down, leaving a border of wax around the perimeter. When this happens, you don't get the maximum use out of your candle. To prevent this, make sure the wax pools all the way to the edge of the jar each burn.

Keep your wick trim at 1/8" each and every time you light your candle. This prevents your candle from creating unsavory plumes of smoke, and provides a cleaner and brighter burn.

Windows are great for views, not for even burns. Drafts and uneven surfaces can disturb your flame, causing ugly black marks on the glass or oddly burned wax. Make sure to place your candle on an even surface away from windows and vents.

Most importantly, the best way to enjoy your candle is to enjoy it safely! Keep your candle away from dangerous situations, children, pets, and unsupervised areas. We recommend that you do not burn your candle for more than four hours at a time.

You've got your mug of tea and book ready to go, but what's that? Ugly plumes of black smoke are making your candle look more like a fire hazard and less like a beacon of relaxation? We've got some tips on how to maintain good candle behavior.

Let's be honest, the jar is sometimes 90% of the reason why we buy a candle. We don't blame you! A pretty jar makes for fantastic decor (and have we mentioned that ours includes hand-inked illustrations?). If you find the edges of your jar smokey, dab some coconut wax on a towel and rub down the inside of a (cold!) candle.

No worries! Just because a tunnel has begun to form, doesn't mean that it's over for your candle! Take a strip of tin foil, and wrap it around the edge of your candle. Cover the top of the candle (like a little hat), with a hole in the center right over the flame. While your candle burns, the foil will help trap in heat to make the edges pool. Keep an eye on the candle the whole time though. Safety first!
