Virtual gatherings have quickly become more and more prevalent in our professional and personal lives. Despite new advances in technology, we're often still left with the age old question of "what do I wear?". Have no fear! We at KESTAN have gathered our top tips for killing your waist up look.
VIRTUAL INTERVIEW
A job interview is already stressful enough as it is. You don't want to be worried about your outfit on top of stressing over choppy internet connections and whether or not they can see yesterday's laundry piling up off screen.
1. Comfort Leads to Confidence
An uncomfortable top can quickly divert your attention from the interview to all the wrong places your blouse is pinching you. Choose comfortable garments that breath and move so that you can focus on what's important. We're big fans of breathable Tencel
™.
2. Stay Away From Distracting Prints
Color and print doesn't translate the same via webcam as it does in person. Avoid loud prints and colors to ensure that all focus is placed on you and what you're saying. This doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your personality though - add interest and flair to your outfit with well-placed accessories, or one power color matched with neutrals.
3. Make Sure Your Clothes Are Clean
It should go without saying, but we've all been there before. One minute you're living your best life, and the next, you glance down only to realize that it's already 4 o'clock and a huge mustard stain has been hanging out on your blouse all day. Do yourself a favor and have a quick once-over in the mirror before hopping on your call. While you're at it, move around and make sure that everything that should stay hidden remains hidden.
ZOOM MEETING
While we wouldn't recommend rocking your Netflix marathon look, we have found ourselves leaning towards comfort when dressing for virtual work. Thankfully, looking put together and feeling comfortable aren't mutually exclusive.
1. Play With Accessories
We find that the easiest way to elevate any casual outfit is by pairing your look with the right accessories. A strong statement necklace or dangling earrings can easily help transition jeans and a t-shirt into something that's more put together. Add a silk scarf in your hair for an easy pop of color that isn't overwhelming. Or embrace your glasses and show off your frames! You'll get a nice studious look, even if you were really just too lazy to put on contacts.
2. Elevate Your Loungewear With Pieces That Transition
We're realists here, and we understand that not everyone needs (or wants) to do the full getup for a video conference. Make your loungewear work for you by choosing options with a more luxe fabric or a twist on the traditional. Cozy up in a cute plaid, but choose one with updated detailing for a stiffer collar for a dressy look. Or lean into stretchy options and pick one with a cool knit detail for an elevated look.
3. Forget The Blazer. Layer Like A Queen.
Depending on the industry, leave the stuffy blazer in your closet and opt for new and fresh layering options. A draped duster is both comfortable and stylish. We craft ours from a brushed Japanese bamboo Rayon for a suede-like texture. Or choose a classic, but update it in a fun print for something that's functional yet eye catching.
CASUAL HANGOUT
With the internet and video platforms so easily accessible, there's no excuse to not hang out with friends! While they'll always love us not matter what, sometimes it's still fun to dress up a little.
1. Play With Pattern
Things can get visually stale, so take this time to play with print and pattern. If you're not a fan of anything too eye-catching, opt for a neutral color with an interesting texture. For example, a fun lace in white.
2.
No Matter What, Wine Looks Good With Everything!
At the end of the day, you should wear what makes you happy! This is the time for connecting, and that should be your main focus. If wearing an old collegiate sweatshirt makes you feel good, then do it! We're all about rocking your style, your way. Besides, a wine glass matches any outfit in our book!
